SUMEDANG, THE CITY OF TOFU


Sumedang is a town in West Java, Indonesia, approximately 35 km northeast of Bandung.
The town is famous for tahu Sumedang, a local variety of deep fried tofu. a
Sumedang's museum, Prabu Geusan Ulun, houses a collection of traditional Sundanese weaponry, as well as the crown jewels and other finery. It is located on Geusan Ulun Road.
The town is just south of volcanic 1,684 m Mount Tampomas, which is usually climbed from from the subdistrict of Cimalaka, 7 km from Sumedang.

The city also passed by national trans java highway, as known as Daendels Road in the past. The post road start from Anyer until Panarukan, its about 600 miles, worked by native pople who work as slave by Liutenant Governoor Willem Henry Daendels in 19th century, passed through the city of Sumedang. When in the hills about western city, they stopped by the rocky's site that can't be penetrated. but Daendel persuaded te leader of Sumedang, to force the people as Rodi (slave) to make the road. the place that rocky's site still exist until now, and known as Cadas Pangeran.

this city was knew as location of Kingdom of Sumedanglarang, that led by King Praburesi (about 1340-1350 AD), with its teritory included Garut (Limbangan), Bandung (Sukapura), Sumedang, Tasikmalaya. after the collaption of Kingdom of Padjadjaran, the nobles ran to Sumedang, and decalared themselves as Sumedanglarang. The last king, Prabu (King) Geusan Ulun removed the Keraton (palace) to Dayeuh Kolot area in the year 1608 AD.

There are many art from this city, but the famous one as known as KUDA RONGGENG (Horse Dancing), Temu Jimat Ceremony, Kuda Silat.
